Music is interdisciplinary -- it requires mind, body, and spirit. It is essential for our growth. And one of the best practices to develop ourselves into a complete human being. If you do it well, you can do anything.
Kevin Yu was most recently the Principal violinist of the
Masters Sinfonia in San Francisco. Growing up in Dallas, he was the Concertmaster of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra (GDYO) and a three-time All-State member. He has served as the Concertmaster of the UT Austin University Orchestra as well as the Principal of the Las Colinas Symphony. His mentors include Emmanuel Borok, Jan Sloman, Michael Selman, and Vincent Frittelli.
Today, he maintains a studio of talented young violinists. Students from Mr. Yu's studio regularly make All-Region, All-State, DAAYO, GDYO and serve as top chairs in their school orchestras.
In his spare time, he enjoys to travel. Some of his favorite memories include walking the El Camino de Santiago and floating down the Amazon River. After the Asian tsunami, his deployment of a foreign aid platform in India led to the Rotary International Service Award. In 2011, Kevin was designated a Marshall Fellow by the German Marshall Fund. From 2016-2018, he served as the Commissioner of The Texas Commission on the Arts. Today, he serves on the board of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra and CEO of Coregami.
Kevin resides in Allen, TX with his wife Maggie, daughters Ava and Ellie, and a doodle named Ketchup.
